Location. The George Hotel is located in the village of Hathersage, Derbyshire, which lies 8.5 miles from one of England's best known stately homes, Chatsworth, and 10 miles from the busy city of Sheffield. Hotel Features. This two storey hotel is housed in a historic period building with many original features. Formerly a 500 year old inn, public areas have complimentary Internet access, and room service is available between certain hours. Expert Tip. On the orders of Elizabeth I, Mary Queen of Scots was held prisoner for 14 years at Sheffield Manor, which is 10 miles from the hotel. Mary was beheaded in 1587, and some say that her ghost still haunts the three storey turret house.
