Expert Tip. Naples is in Florida's Collier County, the state's largest county in terms of land. Yet, more than 80 percent of the county is set aside as parks and nature preserves. Noted for its beautiful beaches surrounded by natural scenery, this area is referred to as Florida's Last Paradise. The City of Naples was founded in 1880 and received its name from developers who advertised it as having a bay similar to Naples, Italy. And like the famous Italian city, many of the homes, businesses, parks and neighborhoods are accessible by boat from the sea.
